For Machine Dreams : Rainforest
The raw state.
A 1 of 1 execution of the slate75, developed for dataland.
The keyboard case is machined from raw copper and finished with tsuchime. The metal is left unsealed, allowing it to naturally darken and patina over time. An object shaped by constraint, quietly recording its own history.
Visual render
Tsuchime process.
The copper surface is finished with a hammertone texture by hand and brought to a mirror polish. Every hit of the hammer is deliberate, leaving a unique, permanent mark on the material. This process rejects sterile industrial uniformity, using the mirrored facets to alter how the metal catches light to mirror the unpredictable, morphing patterns of the living rainforest dataset.
Hammering the aluminium riser.
A study in geometry and surface texture.
The experimental Slate Zero Moonphase serves as the foundation. These studio photographs show the hammertone finish executed on an aluminium prototype, a deliberate exploration of how light interacts with physical form. The hand-struck facets break down harsh reflections, creating a shifting interplay of light and shadow across the metal.
